In todays current economic climate overtime is becoming the norm for half of Britain’s workers, with some feeling compelled to put in longer hours, new research has revealed.

Overtime is becoming the norm for half of Britain’s workers because of the recession, with some employees feeling compelled to put in longer hours, new research has showed.

A survey of 4,000 adults by BT Business showed that many were working up to  seven hours a week, equivalent to a day, worth £2000 million to the economy.

More than a third of those polled said there was less laughter in their office because of the financial downturn as well as greater pressure on staff to perform well.
